"A powerful and thought-provoking play, as brilliantly performed as it is directed." What's On Stage

"Has a visceral power....draws exceptional performances.." Birmingham Post

Making their first visit to the Tristan Bates Theatre, Time Out Live awardwinners Theatre Absolute follow the enormous success of Car, Raw, and Kid with ZERO, another inspiring, hard-edged, and compelling production.

"Theatre Absolute continues to produce excellent work – much of it written by Chris O’Connell – well into their second decade. This production demonstrates that strong characterisation and energetic performance combine to present excellent, though-provoking theatre for their audiences." Daily Info, Oxford

Written by Chris O’Connell (Hymns – Frantic Assembly, Paines Plough, RSC), ZERO is chaotic, fast, and furious. The play takes an explosive and anarchic stare at the ethics of torture, and the curse of censorship.

"A gripping piece of theatre." Coventry Telegraph

Set twenty years from now and in the face of unabated nihilism, hundreds of torture camps have been created to extract information - at any cost - from those who aim to blow apart a world that is wealthy beyond its dreams.

Alex, a translator at Camp Zero, wants to tell the world of the brutal regime within the walls of the camp, but as a consequence his life is suddenly in danger. Survival is of course paramount, death may be inevitable, but the truth has to be told.

"Theatre Absolute has never been a company to pull its punches, and its latest work Zero is no exception..." Coventry Times

“This is theatre at its best. There are no gimmicks, no cheap shots, just wonderful words and glorious actors.” Hang Lenny Pope - British Theatre Guide

“Dramatic brilliance – a fine example of gutsy theatre.” Street Trilogy – Metro

“Reaffirms O’Connell as an important voice for the disaffected” Raw - London Evening Standard

“Something close to poetry” Car – The Guardian
